When it was released in North America, “Malum – Bad Blood” attracted attention not only because of its hefty blood and gore scenes, but also, fortunately, with predominantly good to very good reviews. Here is the trailer:
Already in the trailer for “Malum – Bad Blood“ there are some effectively staged jump scares and plenty of blood. And if you believe the US critics (82 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes), then the film is certainly not for those who are scared. Various reviewers praise the oppressive atmosphere, the steadily increasing intensity and the apparently very successful practical effects.
In this country, “Malum – Bad Blood” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 27, 2024. Both formats can already be pre-ordered. For fans of elaborately designed, strictly limited special editions, there is also a chic Mediabook with the film in UltraHD quality* plus exclusive cover artwork.
In the main role you can expect Jessica Sulawho you might know from the British cult series “Skins” or from M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split”. Other important parts are taken on by Candice Coke (“FBI: International”), Chaney Morrow (“Wrong Turn – The Foundation”) and Eric Olson (“A love by a detour”).
With “Malum – Bad Blood”, director and screenwriter Anthony DiBlasi (“Extremity”) a remake or – as he himself calls it – a “re-imagining” of his own horror shocker, which was made ten years ago, “Last Shift“. It was successfully shown at a long series of festivals and gained a passionate fan base. You can currently download “Last Shift” at no extra cost as part of the flat rate program from Amazon Prime Video stream:
“Malum – Bad Blood”: This is the story
A few years ago, Officer Will Loren (Olson) saved three young women from the clutches of a satanic cult. For reasons that remain unknown to this day, he soon went on a rampage, killing numerous colleagues and visitors to his police station before turning the gun on himself.
In the present day, Loren’s now grown-up daughter Jessica (Sula) begins her job as a police officer. On her first day in uniform, she is assigned to the last shift as a guard in the now-disused building where her father carried out his massacre.
Before the young woman even gets to the station, there is an unpleasant confrontation with her estranged mother (Coke). She is also attacked by cult members on the way. And the officer she is replacing also reacts dismissively to her arrival. But none of that matters to Jessica. She had volunteered for this shift because she hoped to find out more about her father’s final hours. But she didn’t expect what awaited her there…
