This weekend, too, people are flocking to the cinemas in large numbers to watch “Moana 2”. But there are always questions about when the animated adventure will come to Disney+. After all, the film is already listed there…
Anyone who searches for “Moana 2If you search, you will not only find a four-minute short special that offers “a special insight” into the film, but even the entry for the film itself. However, you can currently only find the trailer there.
The entry for “Moana 2” on Disney+*
But some still see this as a good sign that “Moana 2” will come to Disney+ soon. But we have to disappoint these people.
“Moana 2” on Disney+: Don’t expect it before March 2025
For a while, Disney brought some films to the streaming service in a very timely manner. But according to many, this shortened the run of success at the box office. So there was a strategy reversal. Recently, Disney made it clear that they wanted to keep successful films in theaters for at least 100 days before they were available to stream as a subscription. And “Moana 2” is a damn successful film. In Germany alone, around 700,000 people will probably buy a ticket this weekend – after the film had an excellent start last weekend. With around 960,000 cinema tickets sold, it was the third best start of the current decade.
We can therefore firmly assume that the 100-day window will remain and that “Moana 2” will not suddenly be under the Christmas tree as a Christmas surprise or will be available on Disney+. And If we calculate a little with this 100-day window, it turns out that “Moana 2” should come to Disney+ in March 2025. If we look at the release policy for other hits from the Maushaus, a streaming start in the middle of the month is likely.
The premium VoD release should take place a little earlier. The animated sequel will then be available to purchase as a stream from VoD providers such as Amazon Prime Video. This publication often occurs approximately six weeks earlier, possibly at the end of January or beginning of February 2025.
