Hugh Grant would have preferred to refuse to film the legendary dance scene from “Love Actually”. But director Richard Curtis remained persistent. Luckily, because we love the cool dance moves!
Many actors report that they can hardly bear to watch their own films afterwards. One person who probably has to stay particularly strong is Hugh Grant. In one ABC News Special Grant reported how embarrassed he was watching the dance scene in the modern Christmas classic “Actually… loveto rotate. “I saw it in the script and I already thought I’m going to hate doing this”explained the Hollywood star.
In the scene, Grant, in his role as Prime Minister, dances around his official residence to “Jump (For My Love)”. While many viewers have a heart for the scene, for others it is one of the most horrific of all. This also applies to Grant, who still can’t get used to his dance performance twenty years later. Probably also because he was out of step right at the beginning of the scene, as Grant himself reports.

Director Richard Curtis had fun
Also director Richard Curtis still remembers filming the scene well. Grant had been in a bad mood all day and was probably hoping that Curtis would spontaneously become ill. That didn’t happen, the shooting took place. As Grant began to dance, Curtis expressed his satisfaction: “I thought to myself: It’s good that he’s doing it. And secondly, that it’s terribly embarrassing.”
While Curtis had fun with the scene, it took a lot out of Grant. After all, his shame led him to come up with a creative idea that rounds off the scene: In the end, the dancing Prime Minister is caught by his secretary. Whether embarrassing or not – we are always happy when people shake a leg in films!
By the way, it also says Keira Knightley with a “Love Actually” scene at war. You can find out which legendary cinematic moment it is about in the following article:
