Can you actually bring something new in the horror sector? One or the other among us genre fans certainly has the impression that the filmmakers would have given up long ago and would rather fall back on proven ideas and patterns of action.
And yet there are still people who try to integrate unusual ideas into their work. One of them is Guido Tölkewho has previously primarily drawn attention to himself as a cameraman and director of documentaries (“intelligent trees”). With “The Bitter Taste”, the Hamelner now delivers an ambitious feature film that offers an original approach.
“The Bitter Taste” apparently combines vampire, gothic and survival horror with one of the most demanding disciplines at the Olympic Games: the modern pentathlon, consisting of running, swimming, shooting, fencing and riding.
In November 2024, the film, made in English in Lower Saxony, celebrated its world premiere as part of the renowned genre event Frightfest in London. On June 5, 2025, “The Bitter button“In the German cinemas.
The main role is playing Julia Dordel From “Sky Sharks”. Dordel is a former pentathlon and took part in international competitions as such. As with many of Tölke’s earlier projects, Dordel not only stood in front of the camera, but also acted as a co-author and producer of the strip.
In other important parts are Anne Alexander Sieder (“Secrecy”), Simone Geißler (“House of Silence”), Denise M’Baye (“Old white man”) and Nicolo Pasetti From “the last trip of the Demeter”.

Marcia (Julia Dordel) used to be a successful professional foliage. Due to a serious injury, however, she gave up her sport and is now a leader of hunting societies. At one of these jobs, she gets into the catch of a vampire countess (Rita Wolf) and her cannibalistic followers.
