“Stargate”: Mumpitz with cult factor

To be honest, we don’t know ourselves very well whether we should recommend the film to you or rather advise you against it. The opinions on the star-occupied 90s blockbuster, celebrated by many genre fans, differ particularly far, including within our editorial team.

The story of the Egyptologist Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader), who opened the gate to a strange world when examining a mysterious artifact, was not only a financial hit at the box office, but was also well received by the audience-and even so well that it immediately resulted in an entire universe that today consists of several films and TV series.

The cult status can hardly be taken from the sci-fi cracker anyway. But does that automatically make him a good film? No. At least not if our author Ulrich Behrens is in the official Film start criticism for “Stargate” At that time hardly left a good hair on the title.

Who among other things with Kurt Russell (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) and Djimon Hounsou (“Gladiator”) Well -known film has “very nice pictures” to offer, but they couldn’t hide the fact that “Stargate” at the front and back “lack logic and credibility”.
