Arnold Schwarzenegger relied on Agatha Christie for his Hollywood return. But even the best-selling crime novel couldn’t help the action star.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been busy since his acting debut in 1970’s “Hercules in New York” and has produced at least one feature film almost every year since the early 1980s. But there is a major gap in his filmography, namely between 2003 and 2011.
Fans of the action legend should know the reason for this, because after his role in “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” Arnold Schwarzenegger focused on his political career and became Governor of California – a position he held until 2011.
After the end of his political career, he devoted himself again to acting and aside from his participation in the ensemble film “The Expendables 2” he was then in “The Last Stand” and – together with Sylvester Stallone – in “Escape Plan” in a leading role again. But both films failed to impress the trade press or make a significant amount of money at the box office. Therefore, Arnie needed a film that would help him regain his former strength.
Are you looking for great action that spans more than one film? Then the following film series are the right place for you:
Arnold Schwarzenegger relied on Agatha Christie for his comeback
Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to Collider on Agatha Christie. The name will be familiar to film fans, especially because of films such as “Murder on the Orient Express” and the two sequels “Death on the Nile” and “A Haunting in Venice” a household name, because the British author provided the literary templates for the crime novels. And even if the idea of Arnold Schwarzenegger with the pompous moustache of Hercule Poirot is extremely funny, the Austrian-born author had another work in mind that would get his career back on track: “Sabotage”.
“Sabotage” is a squeamish action crime thriller that is actually based on the most successful crime novel of all time: “And then there was none left” by Agatha Christie. Also director David Ayer (“End of Watch”) saw the project as an opportunity to give Arnold Schwarzenegger a remarkable comeback: “It will be a completely new Arnold. I will transform him,” said the filmmaker.
But “sabotage” was met with Rotten Tomatoes numerous bad reviews, flopped massively at the box office and couldn’t even recoup its budget of 35 million US dollars. The crowd-puller Arnold Schwarzenegger had lost his appeal and “Sabotage” joined the ranks of the actor’s flops. In addition to his long absence from the screen, his scandal surrounding his affair with his housekeeper was probably a reason why many viewers no longer appreciated the star as much as they once did in the 1980s and 1990s.
If you want to see “Sabotage” for yourself, you can watch the film now stream on JoynAlternatively, you can also find the film on the Prime Video Channels Cable One CLASSICS, Seven Entertainment.
