Last year in the summer, Warner Bros. announced the work on a new gentleman of the rings film that brings us back to Middle-earth. However, it is not a continuation of the familiar Tolkien history. Instead is The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum during the events of the first part.
So far, it was unclear when the new fantasy blockbuster was coming to the cinema. After first mentioned in 2026 as the publication year, director interpreted Andy Serkis that the theatrical release is shifting to 2027. Now Warner Bros. has made an official announcement and has specifically dated The Hunt for Gollum in the calendar.
Lord of the rings: When does the Hunt for Gollum start in the cinema?
Like the industry magazine Variety reports, The Lord of the Rings starts: The Hunt for Gollum am December 17, 2027 in the cinema. For the time being, this is only the US start. However, it can be assumed that the local publication takes place promptly, maybe even a day earlier than in the United States.
While new films appear on Fridays in the USA, they traditionally come to the cinema in Germany on Thursday. That would be December 16, 2027 The start date for the Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, whose action is located between Biblo’s birthday and events in Moria’s mines.
The fact that a new Middle-earth adventure is coming to the cinema at Christmas is unlikely to surprise fans of the fantasy series. Both the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit films all had a start in December of their respective publication year. Also the anime The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of the Rohirrim Came in December.
Who is behind the new gentleman of the rings film?
Andy Serkis is not the only gentleman of the ring veteran who returns for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Peter Jackson, the director of all Middle-earth real films published so far, is on board, but this time only as a producer. He also brought Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who also produce.
Walsh and Boyens also write the script together with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papagenorgiou, who have put the Rohirirrim battle on paper. No information has been known about the cast. Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Orlando Bloom (Legolas) and Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) have at least signaled that they are quite open to return.
