Famous film producer and director Shyam Benegal passed away at the age of 90. The famous film director of the country ‘Shyam Benegal’ has passed away. According to reports, he was ill for a long time. He was admitted to the hospital just two days ago. According to reports, the director was suffering from kidney related problems. He passed away today, December 23, 2024 at 6:30 PM.
He celebrated his 90th birthday on 14th December. Shyam Benegal is remembered for his new age films. He had done films like ‘Ankur’, ‘Nishant’, ‘Manthan’ and Bhumika.
Shyam was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991. In 2007, he was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema. He produced serials ‘Yatra’, ‘Katha Sagar’ and ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ for Doordarshan in the mid-1980s.
He was the only film director to win the National Film Award for Best Hindi Feature Film five times.
Apart from this, Shyam Benegal was honored with the South Asian Cinema Foundation’s Excellence in Cinema Award in 2012. He was presented with the award in London for his significant contribution to Indian cinema.
Apart from films, he also produced documentaries, television series and short films. Among these, ‘Nehru’ (1985) and ‘Satyajit Ray, Filmmaker’ also won National Film Awards.
