These days, records are being made continuously on the soil of England. First English bowler Gus Atkinson created history by scoring a century while batting at number 8 at Lord’s and now a 16-year-old English cricketer has done wonders with the ball. The name of this young bowler is Farhan Ahmed who has created a new record by taking 5 wickets in the County Championship. In fact, Farhan Ahmed, the younger brother of England’s leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, has created history by becoming the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the County Championship. He achieved this great feat against Surrey.
Made history at the age of 16
Farhan Ahmed, playing for Nottinghamshire, took 7 wickets for 140 runs in 16.5 overs and became the youngest bowler to take 5 wickets in the history of the County Championship. This is not the first time that Farhan has garnered attention due to his game and age. A day before achieving this historic feat, Farhan Ahmed made his debut in the County Championship for Nottinghamshire and thus became the youngest cricketer to debut for his club in the tournament.
Right-arm off-spinner Farhan has already created many records due to his age. Earlier this year, he became the youngest player to represent England in the Under-19 World Cup tournament. And now he has broken Bilal Shafayat’s record as the youngest player to debut in the County Championship for Nottinghamshire. He achieved this great feat at the age of 16 years and 189 days.
It is worth noting that unlike his brother Rehan, who is a leg spinner, Farhan bowls off-spin. Both brothers are hoping to represent England together in the future. It will be interesting to see when Farhan manages to make his debut for England.
