Fans of “Conan the Barbar” must be patient: director Robert Rodriguez In an interview with the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” (via Bleeding cool) a sobering update to the planned Netflix series given.
According to Rodriguez, the streaming service initially acquired the rights to the figure, but let it fall again. This means that the entire project is currently in a kind of floating state. Rodriguez commented:
“Netflix had the right. I pitched it. And they … then let the rights leave out. Sometimes a figure simply brings too much ballast with it. So far, nobody has really caught the mind of Conan from the books.”

The previous “Conan” works
The figure Conan originally goes to the Stories of the author Robert E. Howard Back and became famous for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s representation in the cult film from 1982. Despite a weaker sequel and a much criticized reboot with Jason Momoa in 2011, Conan is considered one of the most iconic figures in fantasy cinema.
A series would have been a new chapter for the franchise that might have worked better in series format – not least because of the potential for a deeper character development and more complex world.
Rodriguez ‘Vision should have brought something fresh and entertaining into the Conan world. But the loss of rights is unclear whether and when the project will be pursued. A return to Netflix currently seems unlikely. It would be possible, however, that other platforms such as Peacock or Hulu take care of the figure, especially when older Conan films run again successfully on streaming services.
